Note (June 2008): This story was originally for Fedora 8, but I recently replaced the harddrives with faster/bigger ones. Then I loaded fedora 9 i386 (32bit). Everything now reflects the current state. So recently I engaged myself in finding a new personal laptop for purposes of editing video (NLVE w/ Cinelerra) while on the road traveling for business & for use as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) using RoseGarden. My goals were: large screen size, bright display, lots of memory and storage space. I tested a Toshiba P205D-S7802, a HP Pavillion dv9715nr, and finally a HP Pavillion dv9730nr. Mainly for reasons of Linux driver compatability, graphics performance, memory capacity and ample disk storage... I wound up with the HP Pavillion dv9730nr. As an added accessory, I also hooked up a Wacom Intuos3 8x6 tablet (configs attached). Read on for more... I've begun assembling research & notes for an informal presentation on Linux Audio (CCRMA) to be given in March 2008 at BLU. I'veboard also had a great deal of success constructing Rosegarden MIDI configs for a Boss DR-880 drum machine & a Yamaha s90es key. So if you care to monitor/inspect my progress. Update: the PDF slides from the presentation are attached... click "Read more"! I've been trouble shooting some problems my kids have reported with Fedora 8, Firefox and Flash. The symptom is that they visit sites like webkinz.com or clubpenguin.com, and the resulting flash page is a blank white screen.
