performance

This blog entry is a continuation of another series of tests that were run on a HP TX2 in an effort to understand battery depletion trends. This time around, I'm going to explore additional settings to both understand & hopefully improve battery performance. Obviously this is a work in progress, but once completed ... it'll get posted to the front page.

Testing

What's to be gained by collecting data while a laptop operates on battery power? Well for one, we'll hopefully learn some interesting facts about batteries. Perhaps, we'll gain some insight about processors or even subtle differences between kernel schedulers. But mostly, we should be able to predict how long we can park at the wifi coffee shop and surf whilst all the power outlets are unavailable. I've got my hands on a range of laptops with both the default (6 cell) & larger capacity (8-12 cell) batteries. Let the madness begin...

A recently purchased 500GB laptop drive started acting up. Here's a link to Seagate's testing tool which I used to scan the device & clear a bad block. Disk appears good to go again.
